Stephen F. Sotomayor
As a native Angeleno, and the son of Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists, Stephen F. Sotomayor grew up with a passion for narrative and a commitment to understanding a diverse world through the eyes of others. This journey has taken Stephen across the globe, from the foothills of the Verdugo Mountains to the campus of the University of Arizona, from the rivers of Germany to the desert sands of Iraq, from California’s Central Valley to the office of the Mayor in the iconic Los Angeles City Hall. Stephen’s career in the military and in public service taught him to appreciate the human condition, and it is that experience he now hopes to bring to Clearing Barrel Productions.
Stephen serves as the Chief Financial Officer for Clearing Barrel Productions, charged with overseeing the strategic growth of the company. He brings seventeen years of public and private sector experience, which includes a prior career in real estate development in California’s Central Valley. There, Stephen’s expertise on affordable housing tax-credit financing would help developers build over one-thousand housing units for low-income families and homeless veterans. Upon returning to Los Angeles and the public sector, Stephen would go on to serve as the Director of Policy for Homeland Security and Public Safety under Los Angeles mayors Antonio Villaraigosa and Eric Garcetti before deciding to embark on a producing career.
In 2016, Stephen partnered with his old Army buddy, Brayden Yoder, to form Clearing Barrel Productions, a small veteran-owned corporation dedicated to telling high-quality stories in the media arts. As a veteran of the Iraq war, Stephen knows only too well the healing properties of narrative, and the importance of providing outlets for trauma. He looks forward to continuing his journey by collaborating with new voices to bring fresh perspectives to the screen.
